For those who dont know or have never heard of PCOS it is known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS is a syndrome which does not have a cure, but can be controlled through different forms of medication, although not all people with PCOS can have children, most need infertility treatments of some kind as PCOS can make your body not ovulate (anovulatory).
I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001, I will never forget what the DR i was seeing at the time said to me upon diagnosis. She said you may never fall pregnant and if you do you can almost guarantee a miscarriage, i was as most females who wanted and dreamt of having children would be, devastated.
Two years passed and we were still no closer to getting pregnant, we were now in 2005 as we didnt start trying to conceive until 2003. For a 23 year old who has no other health issues and should have fallen pregnant straight away I was extremely depressed, very emotional and at a point where it was almost time for me to give up for a while. We were however very lucky to have found a fertility specialist who could see the dire straights we were in and put us on the path to a successful pregnancy.
A lot of other Dr’s would just tell me to stop messing around and wait until later on as I was too young to worry about infertility problems, which astounded me. How can a Dr possibly tell a patient when is the right time for them to have children?
I am now 5 months pregnant and going to be sharing with you my many problems, the story of how i eventually got pregnant and when the time comes the birthing process. Stay tuned for my next blog on how I actually fell pregnant and ways of dealing with the frustration and depression not falling pregnant brings with it.
